Montegut man arrested on juvenile sex charges

NEWS RELEASE

October 23, 2023

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced the arrest of a Montegut man, in connection with an investigation being conducted by Special Victim’s Unit (SVU) Detectives of the Sheriff’s Office. David Paul Martin, 43, was arrested for Molestation of a Juvenile (4 counts) and Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile, in connection with the investigation.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit conducted an extensive investigation into allegations of sexually motivated crimes against a victim under the age of 10 years old, that occurred over an extended period of time. Through the investigation, Detectives were presented with evidence from the victim, to suggest that Martin was responsible for the abuse of the victim.

During the course of the investigation, SVU Detectives were able to substantiate the evidence, which led to an arrest warrant being completed for David Paul Martin, who was found to be jailed at a facility outside of Terrebonne Parish, on unrelated charges. Detectives later interviewed Martin, who confirmed the allegations and admitted to the abuse. Martin was later remanded to the custody of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office on charges and is currently being jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on a $42,800 total bond by local judges.

This remains an ongoing investigation, and additional charges are not known at this time.

Due to the investigative findings in this case, Detectives feel additional victims could be a strong possibility. Any other victims are encouraged to contact the Special Victim’s Unit of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office at (985)876-2500.

Sheriff Soignet said, “Our Detectives are working closely with the victim and family to bring a resolution to this unfortunate investigation. As always, we ask for patience and privacy for the victim and those affected by this investigation. Our Detectives will continue to do what is necessary to bring dangerous perpetrators to justice.”
