Three Arrested Following Shooting, Carjacking and Multi-Agency Pursuit

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim has confirmed that three suspects are in custody following a series of violent crimes that occurred in the area of Al’s Trailer Court in Gray, on Sunday morning.  William Lamar Jones, 19, of Lake Providence, La., William Jennings, 28, of Lake Providence, La., and Kalaye Woods, 17, of Gray, were arrested for multiple crimes of violence in connection with the investigation.

On Sunday, shortly before 11:25 am, Deputies with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a shooting at Al’s Trailer Court in Houma.  When Deputies arrived, they located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. That victim provided Authorities with vital investigative information related to the description of each suspect, before being transported to an area hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

While Deputies were actively responding to Al’s Trailer Court, Authorities received reports of a second violent crime occurring nearby.  Authorities learned that an adult male, residing near Al’s Trailer Court, was approached by two-armed suspects who demanded his vehicle keys and cellular phone.  During the encounter, the adult male was shot by the armed suspects prior to the theft of his cellular phone and vehicle. That victim was also transported to an out of area hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Through witness statements, investigative leads, and the use of investigative databases, law enforcement quickly located the stolen vehicle in the area of Prospects Blvd, in Houma.  A Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Detective, responding to assist, located the vehicle with the assistance of responding officers from the Houma Police Department.  As Authorities attempted a traffic stop, the suspects fled, leading Authorities from multiple agencies, on a high-speed pursuit through Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes.  During the pursuit, the suspects drove recklessly at speeds exceeding 100 mph, disregarded multiple traffic control devices, and endangered numerous motorists before ultimately crashing the stolen vehicle near the intersection of LA Highway 1 and Highway 308.

Two suspects were taken into custody at the crash scene, and were identified as Williams Lamar Jones, 19, and William Jennings, 28.  During a subsequent search of the vehicle, Authorities recovered an AR-15 style rifle, believed to have been used during the offenses.  Authorities also identified evidence inside the vehicle, linking the suspects to both crime scenes.

During the course of the investigation, Authorities substantiated the involvement of a third suspect, who was identified as Kalaye Woods, 17, of Gray, who was involved in the initial shooting incident.  Authorities have preliminarily confirmed that Woods was not involved in the carjacking and shooting incident, which occurred after the initial shooting in Al’s Trailer Park. Authorities later located Woods at a home in Thibodaux, where she was taken into custody without incident.

Authorities have also uncovered evidence connecting the suspects to an armed robbery believed to have occurred the previous day, which went unreported to law enforcement.

At this time, Authorities believe all individuals involved in these incidents have been identified and taken into custody. There is no indication that any suspects remain at large, and Authorities do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public related to these incidents.  TPSO Detectives will continue to investigate the series of incidents for the possibility of additional suspects or additional evidence.

Authorities have arrested William Lamar Jones, 19, on charges of Attempted First-Degree Murder (2 Counts), Carjacking, Armed Robbery with the use of a firearm, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, and Reckless operation of a Motor Vehicle.  Jones remains jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on $1,750,000.00 bond by local judges.

Authorities have taken William Jennings, 28, into custody, and he remains jailed in Lafourche Parish at the present time.  TPSO Detective plan to arrest Jennings on charges of Attempted First-Degree Murder (2 Counts), Carjacking, and Armed Robbery with the use of a firearm, upon his release from Lafourche Authorities. 

Authorities have arrested Kalaye Woods, 17, on charges of Attempted First-Degree Murder, and Armed Robbery with the use of a firearm. Woods remains jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on $1,500,000.00 bond by local judges.

The investigation remains active, and additional charges are anticipated as Detectives continue processing evidence and conducting follow-up interviews.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office extends its appreciation to the Houma Police Department, Louisiana State Police, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, Acadian Ambulance, and all first responders whose coordinated efforts contributed to the swift apprehension of the suspects.

“These were extremely violent and dangerous crimes that unfolded in a very short period of time, placing innocent lives at risk”, said Sheriff Soignet.  “Thanks to the outstanding teamwork of our deputies and our law enforcement partners, the suspects were quickly identified, located, and taken into custody before anyone else was harmed. We remain committed to pursuing every available lead and ensuring those responsible are held fully accountable under the law.”
