13-Year-Old Arrested After Loaded Handgun Found at Evergreen Junior High
September 25, 2026
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet confirmed that a 13-year-old male student has been arrested on multiple charges following a firearm incident at Evergreen Junior High, in Houma, La.
On September 25, 2026, School Resource Officers received information that a student on campus may have been in possession of a firearm. School Administrators and Deputies immediately placed the school on lockdown and began searching for the student.
A short time later, Deputies located the student in a boys’ bathroom and escorted him to a private area of the school. A search revealed a loaded handgun inside his pants, and Deputies took him into custody.
Detectives responded and assumed control of the investigation. During interviews at the school, a juvenile witness reported that the student had shown him the handgun and threatened to shoot him if he reported it.
Detectives also interviewed the student after completing the applicable juvenile procedures. Investigators determined that the handgun had recently been stolen from a relative’s home.
Detectives arrested the juvenile on charges of Aggravated assault with a firearm, Terrorizing; menacing, Theft of a firearm, Illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile, and Carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student or nonstudent at school. He was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Justice Complex and remains detained pending court proceedings.
“A loaded firearm and a threat against another student demand an immediate response,” said Sheriff Soignet. “Our School Resource Officers, and School Administrators acted quickly to secure the campus and take the student into custody. We will continue to work closely with the school and pursue every fact in this investigation. The safety of our students and educators remains our priority.”
The Sheriff’s Office is withholding the juvenile’s identity.
ARRESTED PERSONS ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.
