Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced the arrest of a Lockport mother and son in connection with an investigation conducted by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Intelligence Division. Karsyn Patrick Smith, 18, was arrested on multiple charges of Video Voyeurism stemming from the investigation.
On December 11, 2025, shortly after 12:30 p.m., deputies with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division responded to reports of a disturbance at the Southland Mall, where callers reported that a male suspect had been observed taking photographs inside a women’s restroom.
Upon arrival, Deputies spoke with a female victim who reported that a male suspect was observed taking pictures of her and her 8-year-old child while they were in separate stalls of the women’s restroom. The victim stated that she confronted the suspect as he exited the restroom, at which time he fled the area on foot. The victim pursued the suspect, and her son also became involved, chasing the suspect into the parking lot. The suspect entered the passenger side of a vehicle in the parking lot. As the vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed, it struck a parked vehicle. The victim was able to provide deputies with the license plate information of the fleeing vehicle.
During the initial response, Deputies identified an additional female victim at the scene. Authorities also secured video evidence, which later assisted in confirming the identity of the male suspect and the female driver of the vehicle.
The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Intelligence Division was requested to assist with the investigation. Through investigative efforts, Detectives were able to identify the suspect vehicle, and with assistance from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle was located on Barrileaux Street in Lockport. Two residents were taken into custody and transported for questioning.
Authorities identified the driver as Krystal Lynn Detillier, 33, and the passenger as Karsyn Patrick Smith, 18. During interviews, Detectives determined that Detillier had no prior knowledge of the events that led to the confrontation at her vehicle. Detillier did admit to striking a parked vehicle while fleeing the area and was issued a summons for Hit and Run Driving before being released from custody.
As Detectives questioned Smith, he admitted to entering the women’s restroom and intentionally recording video of female victims inside restroom stalls. Smith’s cellular phone was located and seized as evidence in the investigation.
As a result of the investigation, Karsyn Patrick Smith was arrested and charged with three counts of Video Voyeurism. Smith remains incarcerated at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex with bond set at $100,000 by local judges.
The identities of the victims are not being released due to investigative concerns.
“Crimes involving the exploitation and violation of personal privacy, especially when children are involved, will be aggressively investigated by our agency,” said Sheriff Tim Soignet. “We appreciate the swift actions of the victims and the cooperative efforts of our deputies and partner agencies that led to the identification and arrest of the suspect.”
