Schriever Man Arrested for Attempted Second Degree Murder Following Highway 20 Shooting

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced the arrest of a Schriever man in connection with a shooting that occurred Thursday at a residence in the 300 block of Louisiana Highway 20. Albert B. Triggs, 43, has been arrested and charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder as a result of the investigation.

Shortly before 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, Deputies with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division responded to reports of a male who had been shot at the residence.  Upon arrival, Deputies quickly determined that Albert B. Triggs was responsible for the shooting following an ongoing verbal altercation between the two men.  Witnesses at the scene confirmed that Triggs shot the victim during the dispute.

Deputies located the victim near the front porch of the residence suffering from what appeared to be two gunshot wounds to the chest.  Deputies immediately rendered emergency medical aid until Acadian Ambulance personnel arrived.  The victim was transported to an out-of-area hospital, where he remains in stable but serious condition.

Deputies took Triggs into custody without incident at the scene. Detectives with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Division later assumed control of the investigation and conducted interviews with the victim, witnesses, and Triggs.

During questioning, Triggs admitted to his involvement in the shooting and provided information that was consistent with statements obtained from the victim and witnesses.

Based on the investigation, Albert B. Triggs was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on one count of Attempted Second-Degree Murder. He remains incarcerated on no bond as ordered by local judges.

The victim’s identity is being withheld at this time due to the ongoing investigation.

“As we all know, these types of cases are extremely difficult for the victim, their family, and everyone involved,” said Sheriff Soignet.  “As always, I ask for patience and peace for all affected as our detectives continue to investigate these unfortunate circumstances. I also want to commend the outstanding work of our Patrol Division deputies and Violent Crimes Detectives, who did an exceptional job responding to this incident and conducting the investigation. Our parish is a safer place because of their dedication and professionalism.”
