Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced the arrest of an 18-year-old Gray man on multiple narcotics-related charges following a joint investigation conducted by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol, Narcotics, and K-9 Divisions. The investigation also resulted in the arrest of a juvenile male, whose identity is being withheld due to his age.

In the latter part of June, Deputies with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division responded to a complaint from a concerned parent who believed his minor child had been purchasing illegal THC vape pens. Upon arrival, the parent provided Deputies with digital evidence, including text message communications, indicating that his child had arranged to purchase the illegal products from a male identified only as “Dom.”

As the investigation progressed, Deputies determined that “Dom” was unable to personally deliver the illegal items and instead enlisted the assistance of a juvenile male. A short time later, Deputies intercepted the juvenile suspect and conducted a traffic stop.  During the stop, Deputies discovered the juvenile in possession of illegal THC vape pens while also operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license.

Due to the discovery of the illegal narcotics, Agents with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division, along with K-9 Deputies, were called to assist. The investigation ultimately led to the juvenile suspect’s arrest and the execution of a search warrant at his home.

During the search warrant, Agents recovered numerous illegal THC vape pens, CBD oils, at least two firearms, and approximately $19,000 in U.S. currency believed to be connected to illegal narcotics activity.

Further investigation identified “Dom” as Dominick Cabrera, 18, of Gray, who was also linked to the residence through investigative means. Agents developed evidence confirming that Cabrera arranged the sale of the illegal THC vape pens involved in this incident, as well as evidence supporting numerous previous illegal transactions.

The juvenile male was arrested and charged with Criminal Conspiracy to Distribute Illegal Narcotics and booked into the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Justice Complex.

Agents subsequently obtained an arrest warrant for Dominick Cabrera on charges of Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the Presence of Narcotics, Possession with Intent to Distribute CDS, Criminal Conspiracy to Distribute Illegal Narcotics, and Transactions Involving Proceeds from Drug Offenses.

Authorities located Cabrera at his Gray residence the following day, where he was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex and was later released after posting a $125,000 bond set by local judges.

“This investigation began because a parent took swift action after recognizing something was wrong and trusted law enforcement to intervene,” said Sheriff Tim Soignet. “The collaboration between our Patrol, Narcotics, and K-9 Divisions resulted in the removal of illegal narcotics, firearms, and a significant amount of suspected drug proceeds from our community. We remain committed to aggressively pursuing those who choose to profit from distributing illegal substances, especially when our youth are being targeted.”

Sheriff Soignet reminds the public that anyone with information regarding illegal narcotics activity is encouraged to contact the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office. Citizens may also submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers Bayou Region.
