December 4, 2023

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced the arrest of a Gray woman during a juvenile investigation conducted by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division. Suzana Sousa, 44, was arrested in connection with the investigation.

On December 1st, shortly after 6:00pm, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division responded to a local residence in the 100 block of Sparks Ct, after reports of a disturbance surfaced at the residence. TPSO Deputies made contact with a 13-year-old victim, who reported that Sousa struck her multiple times with a belt, along with striking her to the facial area. Deputies confirmed evidence of injuries to the victim at the hands of Sousa, which occurred during the physical confrontation. Deputies discovered evidence to substantiate that the victim attempted to call 911, though Sousa took possession of the phone and provided false information to call takers as to not alert Authorities.

During the course of the investigation, Deputies arrested Suzana Sousa for charges of Cruelty to a Juvenile with Force or Violence and Interfering with an Emergency System. Sousa was later booked and jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex, where she remains jailed on a $30,500 bond by local judges.

The victim was remanded to the custody of the Department of Child and Family Services and is recovering from injuries sustained during the incident.

Additional information is not being released in regard to the victim identity, or the nature of the association between the victim and suspect.

Sheriff Tim Soignet said, “As always, we ask for patience and privacy for the victim and family, as well as all involved in this investigation. Our Patrol Division did an incredible job investigating this incident. These types of cases are always unfortunate, but I’m thankful that a quick resolution was made in this case.”
