Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced the arrest of a Houma man in connection with a Theft investigation involving an organizational chapter affiliated with the Houma Police Department, discovered late Monday afternoon. Joseph David Lodrigue, 44, of Houma, was arrested on multiple charges associated with the investigation.
On March 30, 2026, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office was requested to investigate a series of missing funds identified during a recent audit conducted by members of the organization following a transition in board leadership. Administrative officers reported that the audit quickly revealed discrepancies, prompting a notification to Authorities.
Through the course of the investigation, TPSO Detectives reviewed financial records associated with a Chase Bank account linked to the organization. Detectives identified numerous unauthorized withdrawals totaling more than $38,000.00, which were transferred to a Zelle account. Further investigation determined that the Zelle account was directly associated with Joseph David Lodrigue, who was an active Houma Police Department officer and served as President of the organization for the past two years, as well as Treasurer for the previous seven years.
Detectives later located Lodrigue at his residence and transported him for questioning. During an interview, Lodrigue was cooperative and admitted to conducting the unauthorized financial transactions. Investigators also uncovered evidence indicating that some of the transactions occurred while Lodrigue was attending a law enforcement conference.
Lodrigue was arrested and charged with Felony Theft, Bank Fraud, and Malfeasance in Office. He is currently being held at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on a no-bond status set by local judges. Lodrigue is scheduled to appear before a magistrate judge, where bond will be determined.
“This case underscores the importance of accountability and integrity, especially among those entrusted to serve and protect,” said Sheriff Tim Soignet. “We remain committed to conducting thorough and impartial investigations, regardless of an individual’s position, to ensure justice is served and public trust is upheld.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available.
