Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet is very pleased to announce the promotion of Sylvia Phillips, to the rank of Corporal (Cpl.), and D-Shift Communications Supervisor.

Cpl. Sylvia Phillips is a 2-year veteran of the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office, where she served in the Communications Division. Cpl. Phillips began her career in Law Enforcement as a clerk with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in 2000, where she served for 3 years, before transferring to the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office as a Radio dispatcher. Cpl. Phillips landed in Terrebonne after Hurricane Katrina, where she worked in Disaster Recovery for the Parish of Terrebonne until 2011, before taking employment with the Houma Police Department. During her 9 years with the Houma Police Department Communications Division, she achieved the award of “Dispatcher of the Year” in 2015 and served as a Senior Dispatcher and trainer before joining the Sheriff’s Office in 2020. In 2021, Cpl. Phillips received the prestigious “Dispatcher of the Year” Award with the Sheriff’s Office and was promoted to the rank of Senior Deputy in May of 2022, until her recent promotion to Corporal. Cpl. Phillips also speaks fluent Spanish and is a vital asset to the communication with our Hispanic Community.

Cpl. Phillips said, “I wanted a job that I could help people, I do not need to be seen but want to be heard. I wanted a job that I can sit and pray often, praying for safety, comfort, and protection. I wanted a job that mattered, to make a difference, and I believe I found the perfect job, being a Radio Dispatcher. It is a privilege, working in a position where I can be myself and make a difference as a Radio Dispatcher for the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Office.”

Sheriff Tim Soignet said, “I, along with the entire Sheriff’s Office, are proud of the contributions and achievements Cpl. Phillips has made here. I can’t begin to explain how important she is to what we do here in our Communications Division, and the impact she has had on our community.”
