Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet has confirmed that as our community prepares for Labor Day weekend, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office will continue to provide a focused safety and enforcement effort, to ensure the protection of residents and visitors throughout the holiday period.  Additional deputies will be on patrol to deter impaired driving, reduce crashes, and keep families safe on our roads and waterways.

What the public can expect:

  • High-visibility patrols on major roadways during peak travel times.

  • DWI/DUI enforcement with zero tolerance for impaired driving, including alcohol and drugs.

  • Seat belt & child restraint enforcement; citations will be issued for non-compliance.

  • Speed enforcement in neighborhoods, and high-risk areas.

  • Boating & waterway safety patrols: life-jacket compliance, sober operation, and no-wake zone enforcement.

  • Emergency response readiness: additional Deputies and Detectives are available if needed, and public safety partners are on standby.

Safety tips for the weekend:

  • Plan ahead: Designate a sober driver, use taxi services if necessary, or stay the night.

  • Buckle up, every ride: Louisiana law requires seat belts; secure children in approved seats.

  • Slow down & be patient: Expect heavier traffic and possible delays near recreation areas.

  • No distracted driving: Put the phone down—use hands-free if you must make a call.

  • Hydrate & beat the heat: Take breaks, drink water, and check on elderly neighbors.

  • On the water: Wear life jackets, carry required safety gear, and never operate a boat impaired.

Deputies will be visible in the community and boat launches throughout the weekend. Our goal is voluntary compliance and a safe holiday for everyone. And remember, if you see dangerous driving, an impaired operator, or need assistance for any reason, call (985)876-2500 or 911 for emergencies.

“We want everyone to enjoy the long weekend and get home safely,” said Sheriff Soignet.  “If you choose to drink, don’t drive. Plan a sober ride, buckle up, and make smart choices.  Our residents are one of the greatest things about Terrebonne Parish, so continue to look out for one another, and if you see something unsafe, say something.”
