Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced the arrest of a Thibodaux man in connection with a complaint regarding the discharge of a firearm that occurred in the 300 block of Ann Street, in Thibodaux. Paul Ernest Blaylock, 65, was arrested as part of the investigation.
On Wednesday, September 24th, the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division was called to a home on Ann Street after reports that a male suspect had allegedly fired a weapon at several workers nearby. Deputies learned that the workers had been hired by a neighbor to trim branches hanging over the property next to Blaylock’s residence. As the crew attempted to complete the job, Blaylock repeatedly yelled and argued with the workers, demanding that they stop cutting.
A short time later, witnesses observed Blaylock exit his home armed with a handgun and fire a round into the ground while the workers were nearby.
During the course of the investigation, Deputies discovered evidence confirming that a round was fired on Blaylock’s property. Deputies made immediate contact with Blaylock, who was taken into custody without incident. During questioning, Blaylock admitted to discharging his firearm in an attempt to stop the workers from continuing their task.
Blaylock was arrested and charged with four counts of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and booked into the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex. His bond was set at $500.00 by local judges.
Sheriff Soignet stated, “I would like to commend the efforts of the TPSO Patrol Division, who did an unbelievable job in this case. This is a very concerning example of why residents should always contact law enforcement before attempting to take matters into their own hands. This situation could have ended much differently, and we are grateful that no one was injured.”
ALL ARRESTED PERSONS ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY
