NEWS RELEASE
October 1, 2025
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet announced the arrest of a Houma man in connection with a Domestic Violence investigation conducted by the Patrol Division. Christopher Raheem Byrd, 33, was taken into custody on multiple charges related to the case.
On September 29, 2025, Deputies responded to a residence in the 400 block of Westside Boulevard, after reports that a male suspect forcibly entered a woman’s apartment while she was sleeping with her infant. Upon arrival, Deputies spoke with a witness who called 911 after observing a male suspect in the home, with his hands around the victim’s throat. The witness stated that she immediately confronted the suspect, who then fled the apartment.
During the course of the investigation, Deputies learned from the victim that the suspect, identified as her ex-boyfriend Christopher Raheem Byrd, unlawfully entered her locked apartment while she was sleeping with her infant. The victim alleged that Byrd placed his hands around her throat while holding her child, causing her to lose breath. Deputies also discovered a minor injury to the infant’s face, believed to have been caused by Byrd.
Further investigation revealed additional evidence supporting the victim’s account, as well as prior threats allegedly made by Byrd in the days leading up to the incident.
Deputies located Byrd the following day near the same apartment complex and arrested him without incident. He was booked on charges of Home Invasion, Domestic Abuse Battery by Strangulation, Simple Battery, and an unrelated warrant. Byrd remains jailed at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justic Complex on a $51,000 bond by local judges.
“As always, we ask for patience and privacy for the victims and families, as well as all involved in this investigation” Sheriff Tim Soignet said. “Our Patrol Division did an incredible job investigating this troubling case, and we are grateful that we were able to help create a level of safety for the victim and child. I am confident that our Deputies will continue to do what is necessary to ensure that justice is brought to this dangerous offender.”
ALL ARRESTED PERSONS ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY
